Listening to People Facing Displacement
During the housing boom close to 6,000 people in manufactured housing communities in Oregon were displaced when parks were sold for redevelopment. Many lost a place to live as well as their community, independence, and primary financial asset (their home).
Oregon Housing and Community Services wanted to better understand what people experience upon displacement. They hired Commonworks to conduct field research and produce a report. Our research uncovered the reality that manufactured housing communities allow older adults on limited incomes to maximize their financial resources and age in a community of choice without public subsidies.
